Teun got some interesting and challenging questions and also positive comments on for example the presentation style. The jury did like the way Teun presented his research in an understandable way focused on a broad audience, while at the same time being able to focus on details of the research. The jury did also pointed out the diverse set of topics that were researched by Teun, which was possible due to several collaborations within the CP7 project.

Teun’s visit to Fraunhofer-Institute Darmstadt

Teun BaarIn April 2015, CP7 researcher Teun Baar visited the Fraunhofer-Institute Darmstadt as part of his secondment. During the visit, a psychophysical experiment was conducted to assess the influence of texture on the perception of gloss and visa versa, using printed samples. The aim of the research was to acquire an improved understanding of the perception of these two aspects for 3D printed samples of which the gloss level was controlled.

Teun’s visit to University of the West of England

Teun BaarEarly September, CP7 researcher Teun Baar from Océ Print Logic Technologies visited the University of the West of England as part of his secondment. During the secondment, relief stamps were made for the application of relief printing. The stamps were created using 3D printers and wood engraving machines. The aim of the research was to compare the limitations and advantages of each of the processes and suitability to creating Chiaroscuro relief prints.

Thesis in 5 minutes – Teun Baar

Teun BaarOn Thursday June 26, 2014, CP7 researcher Teun Baar presented his ‘thesis in five minutes’ at his university Télécom ParisTech. The presentation was an exercise to present the context and the core of his thesis, in a 5 minute PhD pitch format. Teun decided to present his thesis in French, as an extra exercise to present in the language he became more familiar with during his recent work in France and to get more familiar with the French vocabulary concerning his thesis project. The presentation was received well with compliments for the clarity and the French. The video of the interview can be watched on the Teun’s private youtube page or on his linked in page.

A successful mid-term evaluation for CP7 researcher Teun Baar

Teun BaarWe are happy to announce that CP7 researcher Teun Baar at OCÉ had a successful mid term evaluation on April 1, 2014, for the research and training done till now in this PhD. The aim of his work done till now was to control additional channels to current printing systems that are introduced next to the standard CMYK colour channels, and to create a system to translate multi-dimensional image data to actual printouts. Such multi-channel images contain, for example, information of spectral colour, 3D surface or relief, or local reflectance functions. His work mainly did concentrate on the extra dimension being the z-axis, by controlling the surface modulation of the printout, influencing the reflection properties of the print surface. In the near future, the work should result in a journal publication.
