CP7 researcher Radovan successfully defends his PhD thesis

Radovan SlavujCp7 researcher Radovan Slavuj successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Modeling and halftoning for multi-channel printers; a spectral approach” on December 14, 2015 at the Faculty of Computer Science and Media Technology, Gjøvik University College, Gjøvik, Norway.

Irina Ciortan’s visit to Océ Paris and C2RMF

IrinaCP7 researcher Irina Ciortan visited Océ Paris in March 2015 to learn about work done by researcher Teun Baar in the project and discuss future results expected in the project. Irina did visit the Center for Research and Restoration of Museums of France as well to meet Mr. Ruven Pillay and learn about the research activities related to the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage items, in particular of paintings pertaining to the collections of the Museums in France. Irina Ciortan is currently working on “Spectral Imaging and Reproduction of Paintings”.

Presentation by Radovan Slavuj at Forum Farge 2015

CP7 researcher Radovan Slavuj presented his PhD research work at Forum Farge 2015 conference in Olso, Norway on April 17th, 2015. Radovan presented his research carried out till now on Spectral Modelling for multi-channel printers discussing about the work done till now and how it can be applied in everyday scenarios.Radovan Slavuj

Forum Farge is a Norwegian association of people working with Colour. The main aim of this association is to stimulate Colour research on all aspects of colour, to disseminate research-based knowledge about colour, and to facilitate the application of this knowledge to solve colour-related issues in art, design, architecture, science and technology at national level.

Paula Žitinski Elías’s visit to Gjøvik

Paula Žitinski ElíasCP7 researcher Paula Žitinski Elías from LiU, Sweden had a short secondment visit to Gjøvik University College in March 2015. During this visit Paula closely worked with Radovan Slavuj and Luddovic Coppel from CP7.0, and had meetings with several other members of the Norwegian Colour and Visual Computing Laboratory at GUC. Paula is currently working with colour models for multi-channel printing and image quality assessment.

Paper accepted for an oral presentation at the 28th Session of the CIE

Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel

We are happy to inform that the abstract submitted by CP7 researcher Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel has been accepted for an oral presentation at the quadrennial Session of the international Commission on illumination (CIE). The paper, Perception of whiteness difference under different illuminations, focuses on one important colour in printing, namely white.

Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel is currently member of the technical committee TC 1-77 on whiteness. He his also the Swedish representative at CIE Division 1 (Vision and Colour). For this conference, he was awarded a travel grant from the Swedish Graphic Companies’ Federation.

2 new Early Stage Researchers join the CP7.0 Project

Two new Early Stage Researchers Jana Blahová and Irina Mihaela Ciortan are recruited at VoxVil AB, Sweden and Gjøvik University College, Norway for a 6 months period starting in March 2015. Jana will be working at VoxVil AB, Sweden mainly on the topic of  ‘Applying spectral colour transfer functions on a 12-channel printing system’ with a focus on improving the performance of existing methods. Irina will be working at Gjøvik University College, Norway on the topic of ‘Spectral reproduction of Paintings‘.

The CP7.0 Project consortium welcomes Jana and Irina.

Coppel’s visit to UWE Bristol, UK and Fraunhofer institute, Darmstadt, Germany

Ludovic Gustafsson CoppelIn September, CP7 researcher Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel from Gjøvik University College visited the University of the West of England, Bristol, and Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, Darmstadt, as part of his secondments. The aim of the visit was to model the light reflection from layered materials in two different applications: multi-layered coloured prints with inkjet printer to improve colour output of original artwork (in collaboration with ESR Melissa Olen in Bristol) and colour management in 3D colour printing.
